Mayor, City of Huntsville announce updated Stimulus and Board websites
Mayor Tommy Battle's commitment to open, honest government continues with latest transparency initiatives

HUNTSVILLE, AL (July 15, 2009) - Less than one month after his commitment to bringing a more open government to citizens, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle today announced a new and an updated website designed to further promote transparency. The City of Huntsville's "Stimulus Information Hub" (www.hsvcity.com/stimulus/) will feature downloadable versions of City grant applications connected to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Within the City of Huntsville, six Departments/Divisions have applied for grants pursuant to The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The Public Transit Division, the General Services Department, the Fire and Rescue Division and the Police Division have applied for grants directly from the Federal Government. The Community Development Division has applied for a grant from the State of Alabama, Department of Economic and Community Affairs; and, the Planning Division has applied for a grant from the State of Alabama Department of Transportation.
The City of Huntsville's "Board Information Hub" was also updated (www.hsvcity.com/boards/) - including updated and verified meeting times, dates and locations in addition to the current chairperson and contact information for every board.
"This is part of our obligation to our taxpayers and to continue our commitment to open and transparent government," said Mayor Tommy Battle. "From day one we've talked about having a more open and user-friendly government - this is another step in that ongoing process."
In addition to the new Stimulus Information Hub, Mayor Tommy Battle had previously announced five specific projects meant to highlight and promote transparency in government - including an interactive virtual Town Hall feature, more televised board meetings, rebroadcasts of City Council meetings and project highlight videos.
"One of the most important things that our administration focuses on is open, honest government," Mayor Battle said in a June 19th press conference. "We've made a commitment to shining more light on City Hall and having transparency wherever possible."
The new initiatives are all being done with no cost to taxpayers and Mayor Battle again pledged that transparency would be an ongoing theme in his administration.
"We've talked about every taxpayer, every citizen deserving an open, honest government - and we've promised that this is going to be a continuous process. We are still resolute in that commitment," concluded Battle.
