The City of Huntsville Engineering Department's mission is to provide well-organized, and cost effective municipal engineering services to the citizens of Huntsville, the business community, as well as other Departments of the City.
Our department concentrates our efforts on designing/planning, advising, administering, and overseeing Capital Improvement Projects, subdivision developments, and floodplain management with the emphasis on enhancing the economic base, protecting the public health, safety and welfare of our neighborhoods, while improving the quality of life for the residents of Huntsville.
The Engineering Department provides design services, surveying, and contract administration for Capital Infrastructure Improvement Projects. These activities include roadways, bridges, sanitary and storm sewers, storm water management and other civil engineering projects funded in the City's Capital Improvement Program, as well as any engineering work needed for other city departments. The Department provides administration of the City's subdivision and site plan regulations, preparation and review of flood plain studies, City regulated sanitary and storm sewer regulations, and land acquisition for projects. The department maintains records of capital improvement projects, subdivisions, sanitary sewer laterals, roadways, and bridges. All public right of way improvements, privately or publicly constructed, are inspected by the Engineering Department.
