Mission and Goals of The Human Relations Commission
The mission of the Human Relations Commission is:
-To promote mutual understanding, dignity, respect and cooperation among all economic, ethnic, racial, religious and social groups in the City of Huntsville.
-To discourage discriminatory practices on the basis of race, color, religion, national orgin, age, gender, disability or marital status.
-To act as an umbrella group recognizing and supporting all racial, ethnic and diverse organizations, and to coordinate these various interest in our community.
The goals of the Human Relations Commission are:
-To provide leadership in recognizing and resolving potential problems, through its advisory capacity to the City Council and Mayor.
-To develop specific programs designed to foster positive social changes needed to make Huntsville a better place for all residents.
-To resolve concerns brought by residents by mediating when conflict arises concerning good human relations.
-To reconcile differences between residents and agencies of City government.
-To disseminate information and develop programs which will assist in the elimination of prejudice, intolerance and discrimination and which will promote good will.
-To act as an agent of change to foster programs, policies and procedures for ensuring progress in all human relation areas.
-To be aware of and react to any public policy that discriminates against any group or individual.
