SAFETY
The City of Huntsville strives to provide employees with a working environment free of recognized hazards that could potentially cause occupational injury or illness. Safety and/or loss control efforts maintained by the City of Huntsville include but are not limited to safety inspections, accident investigations, and the establishment of safety standards for employees, equipment, and facilities.
Individual departments, from the Department Heads to the front-line supervisors, are empowered to provide initial and on-going training for their employees regarding safety policies and procedures specific to the departments' needs and activities. Each department should have a Safety Officer and/or a designated representative who is responsible for effectively implementing and enforcing the City's safety programs.
Employees are required to maintain an alert attitude toward all aspects of safety and to take every precaution in the prevention of accidents to themselves, fellow workers, and the general public.
A Safety Incentive Awards Program has been established by the Administration for the purpose of promoting safety awareness and recognizing safety within the workforce. The goals of this program are to instill within each employee the responsibility of safety within the work environment and reward employees who perform their job tasks in a safe manner. Participation in the awards program is restricted to full-time or part-time employees who have been employed the preceding full year and who have worked at least 50% of the work hours in the preceding year.
