Cemetery Division
The Cemetery Department is charged with the responsibility of burials, beautification, long term care, and historic perservation for nine municipal cemeteries in the City of Huntsville.
Heavy Fleet Division
The goal of the Fleet Management Division is to provide City of Huntsville Department with properly equipped and well maintained vehicles and equipment to aid them in performing their job task.
Responsibilities of the Fleet Management Division include the purchase of new vehicles and mowing equipment, fueling services of vehicles and equipment, and the repair and maintenance of all types of equipment ranging from Automated Garbage Trucks to Emergency Response Vehicles to Mowing Equipment.
Maintenance Division
The Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining the efficient flow of water through the City's drainage facilities to prevent flooding, erosion, and other property damage. It is also responsible for maintaining the safe riding quality of the City's streets.
Activities include pothole patching, base failure repair, crack sealing, sidewalk repair, curb and gutter repair, street sweeping, curb cleaning, hydro-seeding, creek dredging, ditch maintenance, and administering the street resurfacing contract.
A seasonal activity is ice and snow removal. During winter months, maintenance crews are on call 24 hours a day to respond to ice and snow emergencies on the City's arterial streets.
Sanitation Division
The Sanitation Division is charged with the responsibility of providing garbage collection to residential and commercial solid waste customers. It is also responsible for the collection of trash and yard waste, bulky waste, and seasonal loose leaf collection for Huntsville's 50,000+ residential solid waste customers.
Landscape Management Division
The Landscape Management Division's goal is to improve standards of grounds care on all public space within the City of Huntsville. Landscape Management maintains the grounds in city parks, sports facilities, and rights-of-way, while promoting the highest quality of trained technicialns and professionals in the fields of Turf Management, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, irrigation, Litter Management and Herbicide Application.
